The Lady of RAGE
art direction / branding
The Lady of Rage has been described as "one of the most skillful female MCs" with a "mastery of flow" and lyrics. Her works on the seminal albums, The Chronic and Doggystyle along with some of her on-screen appearances on the sitcom The Steve Harvey Show and her unforgettable role as ‘Baby D’ in the film Next Friday has made The Lady of Rage a fan favorite.
The creation of a branding icon for The Lady of Rage required the combination of utilizing two key elements. One, the letter “R” for her name; and two, encompassing one of her hit singles “Afro Puffs” into it’s imagery. These, along with the small added detail of a period following the letter “R” (which also works as the earring of the icon); provide the brand with a stealth-like cleverness that isn’t necessarily spoon fed to the viewer.
The swooping neck line, feminine facial feature usage and the regality of her signature hairstyle as it’s crown; Rage’s icon design is able to clearly stand on its own. But also, when combined with the brand’s surrounding wording; Rage’s icon embodies the individuality, charisma and style worthy of the talent it symbolizes.
